AGM,
banknote launch called off
Saturday, December 02, 2006
From: Fiji Times
FIJI Television Limited's 2006 annual general meeting for shareholders was
postponed yesterday due to the current political uncertainty.
In a statement, Fiji TV's chief executive officer Mesake Nawari said the
meeting, which was to be held at the Tanoa Plaza in Suva yesterday, had been
moved to a later date.
"We are exercising caution at this stage, as we do not know how the events will
turn out between the Government and the Fiji Military Forces after the 12 noon
deadline today (yesterday)," said Mr Nawari.
He said the new date for the AGM would be released to the South Pacific Stock
Exchange and all shareholders once the situation in the country calms down.
Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of Fiji cancelled the launch of the new design
currency notes featuring the new $100 banknote.
The launch was expected to take place yesterday at the RBF, with the Prime
Minister Laisenia Qarase doing the honours.
A statement from the bank said the launch has been cancelled due to the current
situation.
